From Argentina to WorldChicago

My name is Megan Delaney and I’m a Program Assistant here at WorldChicago. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and emigrated to the United States with my family when I was five years old

Meet Megan

I’ve lived in four different cities since coming to the US – New York, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and now Chicago. Growing up bilingual and being of Latin American heritage has allowed me to see the world around me through a multicultural lens and has helped spark my interest in international relations from a young age. One experience that especially interested me in global studies was a trip that I took when I was sixteen years old to South Africa and Swaziland.

This two-week trip was sponsored by a local organization in my community called Swazi Legacy and while there we visited orphanages and schools built by the organization and met incredible people along the way that inspired me through their incredible work. My particular interests in international relations include human rights issues, the development of emerging nations, and international diplomacy. Currently, I am a senior at Loyola University Chicago and will be graduating this May 2020. I don’t have any plans as of right now post-graduation, but I am interested in possibly attending law school in the coming future for international law. I’d love to work for the UN or for another NGO like WorldChicago that is concerned with diplomacy and international relations. WorldChicago’s focus on citizen diplomacy is what drew me to the organization in the first place, as small-scale interactions are often neglected when discussing international relations. In focusing on citizen diplomacy, WorldChicago helps empower normal, everyday citizens to think globally and to help promote ideas of social justice through facilitated exchanges and interactions. So far in my experience with WorldChicago, I’ve been able to see and work first-hand on the various programs that they run, one being the Professional Fellows Program. I’ve helped Program Manager Kyla Williams coordinate the Fellows’ trip to Chicago as well as their fellowship placements that go along with their professional interests. I’ve loved my experience at WorldChicago thus far!
