Host an international visitor in your home! Go global without leaving home.

WorldChicago seeks volunteer host families for international high school students and mentors coming to Chicago on U.S. Department of State-sponsored short-term exchange programs.

This is a unique (and fun!) opportunity to learn about cultures from around the world, and to share a little of your own culture and hospitality. Our engaged students and adult mentors are eager to experience everyday life in the United States by staying with a host family. Past exchange participants report that the most enriching part of their program is the home stay portion.

Home hosts provide guests with a bed, breakfast, and most dinners. Youth will participate in program activities weekdays from approximately 9 to 5, with evenings and weekends free to spend with you. WorldChicago provides ground transportation, lunches, cellphones, and all program fees. Families are invited to enjoy program celebrations and other fun activities. Host siblings are also invited to join in program activities as space allows.

This summer, we are excited welcome youth from Bolivia, China, Ecuador, India, Iraq, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, the United Kingdom, and eight countries across Africa: Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania. The programs — ranging from 5 days to two weeks — focus on civic engagement, leadership, diversity, and community service, with sub-themes such as youth entrepreneurship, violence and bullying prevention, exploring community through arts, and teen health.
